BACKGROUND:
Eden Isherwood always appeared destined for greatness… in basketball.
After making the varsity squad at power forward to begin her sophomore year of high school, Eden’s team lost only two games in three years—one of which she was suspended for—en route to three consecutive state championships in California. She was heavily recruit, but it came as a surprise to no one when she elected to sign with the Huskies of the University of Connecticut. The signing wasn’t entirely without controversy, however—as previously mentioned, she had been suspended for a game in high school due to attitude problems, and also had a penchant for being levelled with technical fouls. Still, it was felt that those were the product of a lack of maturity, and the championship culture at UConn would help her to grow into a solid citizen, as well as a championship player.
For two years, it looked like that thinking had won the day.
In her career, Eden earned one preseason All-American selection, two overall All-American selections, one American Conference Player of the Year award, one National Player of the Year award, one NCAA Final Four MOP selection and two national championships. Heading into her junior year, she was widely projected to be the number one overall selection in the following WNBA Draft. But that summer, Isherwood elected to capitalize on her growing celebrity by posing for a risqué photoshoot for a men’s lifestyle website. While the content of the photos did her no favors, Eden’s being paid for them was a direct violation of NCAA rules, and less than two months into the season, the scandal led to her being cut from the Huskies. No doubt that alone would have been enough to hurt her draft stock, but to say that Isherwood didn’t respond well to this development would be an understatement: she had to be physically restrained from attacking the Athletic Director!
After which, every team in the league took a pass on drafting her. Oh, she almost certainly could have become an undrafted free agent, but Eden Isherwood wasn’t about to go begging teams for a job. Nor was she about to travel the world to play a game for less money and less fame than was her right. “Basketball needs Eden Isherwood,” she would tell reporters when interviewed about her plans. “Eden Isherwood does not need basketball.”
But she DID need a job. Which is when she stumbled across FAWN, which she saw as a chance to earn more money and gain more celebrity than she ever would on the hardwood. And she had no doubts, as easily as she had been able to impose her will on the basketball court, she would be able to do the same with the “no talent skanks” who made up wrestling with even less difficulty. After a few months of extensive training, she called the offices of FAWN. And while the scouting department might not have seen a polished future world champion, they DID see someone who might be able to sell some tickets and draw a few headlines…
