BACKGROUND:
We’ve all heard the complaints about various youth competitions in this day and age: when every kid basically gets a trophy just for showing up, and more often than not no one even keeps score, how is a child supposed to learn the value of competition? Instead, these modern kids grow up to be adults with artificially inflated senses of self esteem.
In every important respect, Melyssa (or Lyssa) Zahn is the embodiment of that phenomenon, except for one minor detail--she’s also very, VERY good at what she does. And what she does, quite simply, is kick ass.
She is also, quite possibly, the first “Social Media Wrestling Superstar.” In 2007, her own YouTube channel went live, cataloguing Lyssa and her high school cohorts exploits in terrorizing, traumatizing, and just generally pummeling kids who they didn’t think were cool enough. Of course, at this point she did her best to keep her identity protected, the videos focused on almost exclusively on their victims, for fear of reprisals from the school and/or parents.
That would change upon graduation.
Though quite smart, Lyssa did not for a single second consider continuing her education past high school. She already knew everything she needed to know, and had learned absolutely NONE of it through the public school system. Instead, she immediately started training to become a pro wrestler. And no sooner had she begun to work independent shows did Lyssa begin to post rants to her YouTube page, no longer bothering to masque who she was, and her Facebook page began to grow populated by pictures and videos from her matches. At first, these were shot by some of her “mean girl” high school friends...
Until, eventually, Lyssa started taking HER OWN pictures. During matches. Acts that served to help make her one of the most hated women working the New England independent circuit. Of course, the other thing that helped to make her one of the most hated women working the New England independents was that she was just DAMNED good. Eventually, Zahn started a photo album on her Facebook page entitled “Lyssa’s Wall of Shame”, containing pictures of all the women she had beaten--usually right in the first minute after the final bell.
Gradually, Zahn rose to the top of her home promotion in New York, winning its belt... which she promptly left with. Soon it became a pattern: Lyssa would move into a “territory”, identify a target (often one with a championship belt), and then stop at nothing to conquer her. And, over time, while she might not win every battle, you can rest assured that Zahn would win the war--after which, she would promptly pack up, adding another mug shot to her gallery, and often another belt in her suitcase.
Of course, this also became a problem, as local promoters began to grow reluctant in hiring her. However, Lyssa’s social media notoriety had brought her to the attention of scouts in the FAWN Talent Department, who were more than willing to bring this shooting star into their universe.
Lyssa is about as cocky as they come, but with very good reason. She has exceptional raw talent, coupled with outstanding conditioning, both of which served her well in the indies where she could rely on them while developing her skills. She absolutely CRAVES attention, yet feels little but contempt for the people who give it to her--opponents and audience members alike. FAWN would be her biggest platform to date, and she accepts that it might take her some time, but make no mistake.
By the time she’s done, Lyssa Zahn intends to RULE this company--and she intends to have EVERY woman’s face in her Wall of Shame.
