BACKGROUND:
The story of Lark Russell begins several years ago, even before she was born: the simpler world of professional wrestling in the 1980’s, and one of that world’s biggest stars: Marcus Russell.
There simply was not a bigger star, or a more beloved figure than Marcus Russell—the ultimate picture of the ideals of truth, justice and the American Way. But of course, Russell was only human, with human failings. And when you are so adored by fans—particularly beautiful, young, female fans—it’s hard not to give in to those temptations, even if you’ve been happily married for over 15 years with three children at home. But one night, on the road in Independence, MO, a dalliance with one such gym rat lead to the birth of Lark Dawson.
It was another six years before Lark’s mother came forward, a development which earned her plenty of money from tabloid publications everywhere. Unsurprisingly, Marcus denied the allegations—leaving aside that he truly did not remember Lark’s mother, but the scandal of this paragon of virtue, who was still drawing tremendous box office, being exposed as a hypocrite was too much for either him or his handlers to deal with. Eventually, he consented to a DNA test which confirmed the truth: Lark Dawson was Lark Russell.
To Marcus’ credit, once he received confirmation Russell stepped up to try to be a proper father. But by that point, the damage was done. Young Lark wanted NOTHING to do with a man she felt had abandoned her. She outright despised him, and everything he stood for. And she wanted revenge.
It took until shortly after her 18th birthday for Lark to finally figure out exactly HOW she would achieve her revenge, but in the end there was really only one way to go about it: enter the profession Marcus had dedicated his life to, and become BETTER at it than he had ever been. The added bonus of this was that, as part of her quest, she would be able to torture and torment other wrestlers, people that she had grown to hate almost as much as her dad.
Lark is a vicious, vicious woman. She loves nothing more than to hear another woman in the ring beg her for mercy. Case in point: as part of her crash course in training to enter the ring, Lark learned boxing as well as wrestling. And one thing she discovered in sparring was that she had an absolutely, positively lethal right hand—one that could knock out any girl almost any time she chose to throw it. Only, as she sees it, that would be too easy for her opponents. “A sleeping bitch doesn’t learn anything,” she has observed.
Tremendous success working the southern independent circuit led to her gaining the attention of LaKeisha Bates when the Nubian Queen was putting together the new Dangerous Curves. For Lark, Bates’ offer was simply too good to refuse. As much fun as she was having getting better and punishing no name, and often no talent women in the minor leagues was great—but no one was seeing it, yet, especially her dearest daddy. FAWN, on the other hand, would give her the biggest stage there is. No one would be able to miss the devastation she was causing. Even in as much as the idea of aligning herself with a faction was uncomfortable, joining Dangerous Curves was a price she was willing to pay.
At least for now.
