FAWN’s commissioner, former wrestler and eternal Head Bitch In Charge, Bethany Christian sits at her desk and makes pivotal decisions with each click of her keyboard. She’s looking through documents vital to several weeks of shows including the upcoming PPV and listening to a podcast by cute British journalist, Harold Pryce of wrestling news enterprise, Whyphilosophy. The young man is nearly 20 years her junior but Bethany will run him ragged in the best possible way if they ever meet in person.
BETHANY CHRISTIAN
Her assistant buzzes on the intercom, “Miss Christian, one of the attendants for your 11 am meeting has arrived, shall send her in now?”
Bethany glances at the time in her monitor, 10:45am. They’re fifteen minutes early, she likes that. “Send her in, thank you.”
In steps one of the tallest and strongest women on FAWN’s roster, and the current Intercontinental Champion, Victoria Hackenschmidt.
VICTORIA HACKENSCHMIDT
The German giant is sans title belt but looks no less a champion in a fashionable cream-coloured, double-breasted blazer with wide-legged trousers. For almost her entire life, Victoria has only felt comfortable in wrestling gear, and extremely self-conscious in ‘feminine’ clothing. Luckily, modern fashion provides several options that leave Victoria looking good and only somewhat anxious. The physically intimidating blonde closes the door behind her, “Good morning, Miz Christian. I hope this morning finds you well.”
Bethany can’t stop a confused smirk from taking over her face, its strange to be addressed so politely by a wrestler without there being an undertone of sarcasm or it being a precursor to some verbal trap, “It does thank you. Please take a seat, our other guest should arrive soon.”
“Stay here girls.” a familiar but muffled voice comes from the outside before the domineering executive steps in.
The Israeli Powerhouse closes the door behind her, dressed in a blazer jacket over a white t-shirt, cropped jeans and heels, decorated with FAWN’s biggest prize over her shoulders.
Without pleasantries, the champion settles onto a seat and asks, “What business do you have for me, Miss Christian?”
“And may I ask who this is? And what business does she have in this meeting?”, Dayna continues.
“I believe we have not met, Miss Erza.” Victoria introduces herself with an extended hand.
“Sorry, I'm not interested.” Dayna glances over her shoulder and leaves the IC champion's hand hanging.
“Well, I hope you two get acquainted soon as both of you would be sharing a ring together!” Christian interjects.
Victoria slowly retracts her hand, her only signal of offence taken is a slight narrowing of the eyes at the Executrix. Aside from her rude manner, Dayna should know who Victoria is purely for professionalism. They’re both titleholders in the same organization. This is some kind of power move or willful ignorance, either way, it's a disrespect The Knight will not tolerate for much longer. Her irritation almost makes her miss Christian’s puzzling statement, “Sharing?” She glances at Dayna, “Are we forming a tag team?”
“Hmmm….”
Bethany thinks about that possibility for a beat, it could be a money idea, but the tag division is just at the acceptable amount of bedlam for the moment. She types that down in shorthand to expand upon later, “No, but let's keep that concept on file just in case. Next PPV, March to War, the Intercontinental Champion Victoria Hackenschmidt will face World Champion Dayna Ezra in a Champions Showcase! Both of you are a breath of fresh air to FAWN’s title scene and it’s rare to have two Destroyer class women as champs in the singles divisions at the same time, we’ve done some research and people want to see what happens when you two mix it up!”
“Is that really necessary? We know why this lady here is the Intercontinental champion, while I am the World Champion for a reason.” Dayna speaks bluntly in front of Victoria.
“In fact, she should be defending her title against someone of her level, not against me. I have no interest in that belt right now” Dayna added.
“I have said my piece. No, if you’ll excuse me…” Dayna pushes her chair back as she stands aiming for the door but Victoria moves ahead of Dayna and inserts herself between the door and the World Champion.
"Despite stating that have no I idea who I am," Hackenschmidt speaks evenly but there's an undertone of opposition, a potential precursor to aggression, "Yet you seem entirely certain of your superiority. That you would win. I find that insulting."
She takes a step closer to Dayna who moves up as well; the world champion maintains the same air of ‘highest status’ and gives Hackenschimdt a slightly raised chin and an examining gaze, silently analyzing her in a demeaning fashion that raises The Knight’s hackles. They're not nose to nose but they're getting close. Victoria continues, "you implied the only thing keeping you from taking my Intercontinental title is your lack of interest. Perhaps I have interest in taking your World championship, and teaching you some respect."
Bethany interjects before this escalates, she's tired of ordering new furniture. "Just to be clear; this would be a non-title match. I'm not looking to blur the lines for the divisions just yet. Now if you two want to add some stakes to this besides the winner's purse? We can discuss this…"
“Well, I will put up 20% of my company shares as a wager. If you win, that would be yours.” Dayna offers confidently.
“And as for you, I will take your family’s most prized possession, if any.” The Israeli Powerhouse is normally not this antagonistic, but she can tell Victoria will require more foreplanning than the average opponent. You need to have them in the palm of your hand before there’s ink on paper. That’s the Erza way. Dayna continues. “You will be the disappointment of your family.”
Victoria is level-headed and could be described as easygoing outside the ring, but the subject of her family (particularly her mother) was a bit of a landmine, especially now after the last couple of years with her ex-partner Danica and the wrestling fanbase turning on the gigantic German, leaving Victoria in a much more fragile emotional state and prone to berzerker rages. So far this has only occurred in the ring, but Dayna and Bethany can tell The Knight is one twitch away from starting this match here and now!
There’s a subtle tremble throughout Hackenschmidt’s body as she slowly steps to the Executrix, they’re so close they can each other’s breath on their lips. Her blue eyes stare daggers at Dayna as she dictates coldly, “What you’re referring to is my founding ancestor’s breitschwerts. His broadswords. If you're only offering 20% of your shares of that painted-over collection of Ponzi schemes your family calls a conglomerate, I’ll put up ONE of them. If only to show you how a real champion conducts herself, my boot on your throat will be an excellent photo in the company newsletter.”
Dayna visibly bristles and takes the belt off her shoulder for the first time today, it’s time to establish the pecking order. An office, possibly building destroying fight’s about to take place when a hand tightly grips each woman’s shoulder; so caught up in their staredown they didn’t notice Commissioner Bethany Christian come out from behind her desk. The pinpricks of pain radiating from Bethany’s hands remind the former wrestlers the brunette is a former wrestler and can still put someone in their place.
“Let’s keep things civil now,” Bethany chides them in a polite, yet steely tone. “No point in fighting for free, and never in the office. That’s how Erway got injured. Let's finalize these contracts, shall we? The shares vs the sword!”
Dayna raises her title belt back onto her shoulder, “Send the papers to my lawyers, I have three other meetings this morning.” She turns her back on Bethany and a fuming Victoria, “At March to War, I’ll show the locker room the difference between the main event and the mid-card.”
Victoria barks “You-!” but Dayna’s already left, letting the mesmerizing sway of her glutes wrapped in denim as she walks away be the last way The Valiant One interacts with her before their now official match.
