Lenore Lemarchand was born to perfectly ordinary middle class parents in Glen Echo, Michigan, who
early on realized their daughter possessed an extraordinary intelligence. Though they treated her with
all the love and respect a child could want, as Lenore grew older she came to recognize her parents
(and everyone else) as inferior intellects and she often despaired of finding anyone with whom to match
wits.
Despite her basic contempt for ‘small minds‘, she has always known how to manipulate and control
others. Sent to an exclusive prep school on scholarship, Lemarchand learned to deal with wealthy and
socially superior students through a carefully constructed network that supplied exam answers, book
reports and other ‘carefully placed information’. (You said gossip, not her). Despite her brilliant social
puppeteering, Lenore never hesitated to take direct action in dealing with a potential threat, she did in
fact, find ’the wet work’ infinitely more enjoyable than mere manipulation.
Lenore eventually came to despise these scions of privilege who’s only real skill seemed to be building
successful lives based on the efforts of more capable members of their families. Still, she kept this
hidden behind a cold mask of indifference backed up by a well-developed talent for verbal
counterpunching whenever someone dared challenge her place in the hierarchy. Her specialty was a
sort of slow burning humiliation that would come off harmless upon first utterance before ultimately
building into the sort of whispered maelstrom that could wreck a reputation over the course of one
weekend. As a result she was equally feared and respected among the students and faculty, so much so
in fact that one of her more classically minded peers linked her to another classic harbinger of doom.
Lemarchand never found out who it was that originally started calling her ’The Raven’, but she liked
the hushed tone of it so much she let it slide without making anyone’s life miserable. (On that particular
day at least.)
While she was no one’s idea of the traditional jock, Lenore enjoyed sports during her stay at the
academy: tennis, golf, cross country, and most importantly, field hockey. Lemarchand had always
dismissed violence as the lowest possible solution to any conflict, but that changed one afternoon when
a blonde lass on the opposing team took exception to the Raven’s tactics and expressed her displeasure
with a savage yank on Lenore‘s dark locks. Gripped by a black anger that surprised her more than
anyone else, Lemarchand wrestled her attacker to the ground and didn’t stop pulling hair until she’d
been prized loose by nearly half a dozen teammates. The brief skirmish with an opponent on such a
base level proved mentally intriguing and physically exciting to the heretofore passive brunette. For all
the verbal snark and treacherous tricks she had pulled over the years, never before had she actually
come to blows with another young woman. Giving the matter her usual incisive self-analysis, Lenore
concluded she enjoyed the experience and sought to repeat it.
Soon thereafter, Lenore began to pick fights with selected targets, and early on, she took her lumps.
However, Lemarchand learned combat tactics with frightening speed and by the time she graduated
from prep school, she was regularly defeating college seniors and even ‘townies’ who fancied
themselves fighters.
Upon graduation, Lenore enrolled in the Linguistics program at Miskatonic University, where she
planned to parlay a longtime fascination with puzzles of all kinds into a career in cryptography. Early in
her time there she discovered the college’s small but active AHW scene and it was on one of these fight
nights during her senior year that Lenore noticed Emily West in attendance. After quickly disposing of
her scheduled opponent, Lemarchand brazenly challenged the FAWN star to a match. The Amazing
Academic took up the younger woman’s offer and though it was a close fight, the Sensual Scholar
ultimately smothered Lenore into unconsciousness--her first loss in quite some time.
Turned out Emily’s presence was no coincidence. She’d been scouting Lenore’s progress for some time
and proposed to tutor her, not only in AHW but in the pro style as well. Lemarchand seized the
opportunity and West personally trained her at various gyms around the area before arranging for her
protégé to fight in various small venues. Soon Lenore became known as ‘The Terror of the Miskatonic
Valley’ for her ruthless destruction of her opponents. Not surprisingly, FAWN talent scouts were
eventually in touch with the terrible tyro, but under the guidance of her mentor she skipped the
customary apprentice period in The Jungle and went straight to Orlando.
Ever the lover of puzzles, Lenore made a careful study of FAWN and its fighters. This has led to her
scathing public comments on the promotion’s encouragement of nepotism-- what she saw as a
corrupting epidemic of daughters, sisters and cousins of established talents. And while she’s certainly
no agent of sweetness and light, Lemarchand has no tolerance for the type of heel who ‘hides behind
lackeys and catspaws’ to do their dirty deeds. From the beginning, she’s always been a firm believer in
‘if you want something done right, do it yourself’.
Thus Lenore Lemarchand has wasted no time in ruffling the feathers of two major factions of
coworkers. Exactly what this means and where it will lead is something only the passage of time can
reveal, but with Emily at her side and an endless supply of potential targets, it’s almost certain that this
particular Raven will be casting her shadow on FAWN… forever more.
