Jacksonville, FL - a week following Summer Swelter
Yoona Park and Camille Cosworth open the door to the locker room where their new pal Kanako Akiyama is showering, following a win against Cassidy Woolridge. They can hear the Japanese beauty singing in the shower as they have a seat to wait for her. Her singing voice, as usual, sounds lovely, but if they had been listening to the content of what she was singing, they might be even more concerned than they already were.

Yoona Park
“You want it all, but did you want it tonight?
You don’t remember as you wait by the light”
“Alright, Yoona. Remember to stick to the script: good cop/bad cop.”
“Why do I have to be the bad cop? Why can’t YOU be the bad cop?”
“Oh, can’t you see what you’ve been asking of me?
With the turn of this knife, know I will take your life”
“You’d have zero credibility as the good cop. Zero. Zilch. Nada.”
“This ain’t no crime, no, I’m calling for mercy”
"Let's do bad cop / racist cop instead"
"......."
“Oh, now it’s time for you to pray for me...Oh, oh, OHHH”
"I'll give her a dose of tough love, and you shoot her in the back and claim you feared for your life."
“There will be justice in murder...There will be justice in murder
Now you’ve been for me what no other could be
Will I now grow old to forget all those
"
"That's screwed up. That is SO screwed up."
"It's the country that's fucked up, Cam"
“Blow off sorrow, goodbye tomorrow”
The two lovers spend uncomfortable moments staring at each other, before they hear the water to the shower cut off.
“Ugh!” Cam grimaces, realizing that they really weren’t prepared for this discussion, outside of knowing they needed to have it. Due to unforeseen circumstances, neither of them were present for Summer Swelter, and thus had to watch the actions of their new friend from a laptop screen, and when Kanako accepted Lydia Lethbridge’s challenge to an Apartment House Match under European rules, they knew they needed to talk some sense into the honor-bound Modern Day Ronin. “I think she’s on her way out. Let’s just wing it.”
KANAKO AKIYAMA
“WOO!” Kanako sighed happily as her naked frame bounced out from the showers, not blinking to see Cam and Yoona seated, waiting for her. “Nothing like a nice hot shower after kicking a bitch in the head whom desperately deserves it!” She turns to open her locker, oblivious to the worried looks exchanged by the pair. “Where we going tonight, ladies? I’m feeling steak. Maybe some karaoke afterwards?”
Another shared look before Cam speaks up, “Umm, Kanako? Yoona and I want to talk to you about Lydia -”
“Listen, champ,” Yoona cut the good cop off, “I think you should sit this one out and let me handle it. I’ve gotten reeaaaal fuckin’ good at taking out the Eurotrash.” At this, Kanako stops in her tracks and slowly turns to face them again, her expression darkening in an instant.
“What?” she says lowly, enunciating the “t” at the end.
“Well…” Cam began to elaborate, putting up her hands palms up, placatingly, “It’s just that it’s penthouse wrestling...and you’re not...umm…”
Yoona stepped in again while Cam tried to find a tactful way to put it, “Penthouse wrestling needs a merciless slut. And since Cam isn’t ready yet, that means I’m up.” Kanako frowns and folds her arms across her chest. “You know Lethbridge played you like a fucking piano, right?
“Fiddle,” Cam interjects, “the phrase is ‘played you like a fiddle.’”
“Shut it, Cam!” Yoona barks.
“I know.” Kanako answers passively.
“You know you’re walking directly onto that asshole’s home turf, right?”
“I know.” Kanako is trying hard not to get angry
“And you know this isn’t some worthless piece of bikini meat like Caity Mason, right? Lethbridge not only cut her teeth on the European penthouse scene before FAWN signed her, she fucking dominated it!”
Kanako is not taking this gentle assault on her ego very well. “I know Lydia’s history, yes. So, you’re saying I can’t get the job done?” she growls, smoldering.
Yoona looks Kanako in the eye as she gets to her feet, knowing that she needs to get the point across in order to spare her friend needless suffering. “How far are you willing to go, Kanako? Wrist-deep in her cooch? Elbow? Shoulder?” Yoona inches closer to Kanako with each body part until they’re nose to nose, looking like they might come to blows themselves, “‘Cause that’s the kind of tom-fuckery that goes down in the penthouse.”
Kanako snarls, not appreciating Yoona getting in her face like this, “Not if I snap the bitch’s fucking neck five minutes in.”
“I hate to say this,” Cam interjects hoping to ease the tension in the room, “but I think Yoona has a point. If you kick her butt five minutes in, then that’s great...But what if you don’t?”
Under other circumstances, Yoona would’ve grabbed Kanako’s collar for emphasis. However, considering the Japanese girl’s current state of undress, she settled for maintaining eye contact. “You better be ready to hate-fuck Lethbridge straight to the infirmary, ‘cause I gauran-damn-tee you that she’ll do the same to you in a heartbeat, if she gets the chance!”
Kanako sucks in a deep breath and licks her lips, considering her next words carefully. “Yoona…” she finally begins, putting a hand on Yoona’s shoulder, trying to calm them both down, “I understand why you want to do this. And believe me, I love you for it. But nobody...nobody...fights my battles for me.”
Yoona nods and takes a step back, patting Kanako’s hand before joining her girlfriend back on the bench. “Ain’t no reason to die on this hill, Kanako. You say the word, and I will bring you her fucking head in a pillowcase.”
“And then what?” Kanako throws her hands up. “Then everyone says that I let you take Lydia out because I was too scared to fight her on her own turf. It would be a stain on my honor, Yoona. Worse than death.”
“And then you move on to some other asshole that’s worth your time. There’s a time and a place for honor, and the penthouse AIN’T. FUCKING. IT.”
“If it gets my hands around Lethbridge’s scrawny neck, then yes it fucking is! Think back, Yoona. Wouldn’t you have accepted any match to get your hands on Adelaide Brewster?”
Yoona’s response was immediate, almost as if she had expected Kanako to bring up her feud with the current FAWN World Champion. “Remember when I fought that motherfucker with honor? I sure as shit don’t. You wanna take this match, Kanako, I won’t stop you...But you better be ready for that shit. You let yourself get bogged down with any notions of honor, fair play, or mercy, and that’s when the shit’s gonna hit the fan.”
Kanako shakes her head, “I won’t abandon my honor for any reason. But if you think that means I’m going to fight Lydia with kid gloves and be the “good girl”...then you don’t know me too well yet. This is my fight, and I’m going to fight it my way. And I promise you...even if I do wind up losing in the end...that miserable bitch will pay dearly for her win!”
“Just remember,” Cam finally pipes in cheerfully, “that if things start going south, a good Giant Swing into the wall can always turn the tide!”
Both of the other women turn to look at the brunette curiously, an uncomfortable silence hanging in the air.
“.......Ignore her. She’s still tripping balls from the anesthesia.”
At that, Kanako blinks, trying to wrap her head around that. “Ane...anesthesia? Why in the world…? Did...Did you have surgery or something, Camille?”
Cam smiles sheepishly, as if a big secret had just been found out, “Umm...no-one else knows yet...But, yeah.”
Kanako’s expression immediately softens as she leans in, “So...that means...your spine...You’re going to be okay?”
“She has six weeks to live.” Yoona deadpans.
“YOONA!” Cam smacks Yoona in the back of her head before answering Kanako seriously, “I’m...yeah...I think everything’s gonna be okay. For reals.”
A wide smile slowly crosses Kanako’s lips and she breaks into a joyful shout as she tacklehugs Cam, paying absolutely no mind to her current nakedness. “WOO-HOO!! This really calls for a celebration, then!”
“THREEEEEEE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!” Yoona shouts, pumping her fist.
“Veto.” Cam answers, holding up a hand to shut down her now pouting girlfriend, “But steak and karaoke does sound good.”
Kanako smirks and stands up and heads over to her locker to get dressed, “Yes, indeed! And don’t worry about my match. One way or another, that bitch is going to suffer and suffer hard for what she’s done.”
Once she’s finished getting dressed, the three of them leave the arena, arm in arm, for a night of merrymaking and fun in Jacksonville. Kanako is determined to enjoy herself while on this loop, because she knows when she’s done, when it comes time for Red, White, and Bruised...the happiness she’s enjoying now will be a distant memory.
