Description:
Leila Olmstead wasn't born to a family of legendary wrestlers...she wasn't a superstar athlete
transitioning into the ring from her other sport...she wasn't even left as an infant on the doorstep of a
band of ninjas. She's just the daughter of a hard-working, blue collar man who instilled in her a strong
work ethic and a passion to do things the right way, irregardless of however difficult that might be.
Growing up, she loved watching wrestling with her dad and brothers. A decent student and high school
athlete, she nevertheless had little interest in going to college. But the prospect of spending the rest of
her life in her hometown working for minimum wage held no appeal, either. On a whim, she hooked
up with a local independent promotion and started training during her senior year, figuring it would be
fun to try wrestling...at least for a little while, until she found something more permanent.
Proving herself to be a solid worker with an engaging personality, she quickly began to build a small
but loyal following of fans. She cut her teeth in matches throughout New England, woodshedding in
high school gymnasiums and county fairs, frequently losing in her initial months as a wrestler, but
always striving to take lessons from each defeat and applying what she learned in her next match. She
particularly enjoyed facing a number of veterans who passed through the territory; although most of
them were in the twilight of their careers and long past their peaks, they still had a wealth of
knowledge, and Leila was an apt pupil.
Efforts to move up to some of the larger regional promotions were frustrating, however, as promoters
usually wanted her to switch to "heel", arguing that fans wanted their good girls to be babyfaced
blondes. But, firmly believing that rulebreaking is a bad shortcut to success, she scrupulously refused
to cheat. As a result, her career stalled short, and she appeared headed for obscure oblivion.
Then, again on a whim, she accepted an offer to tour France. The money was virtually non-existent,
but she discovered that both fans and promoters in Europe immediately took to her style and respected
her integrity, and she quickly vaulted up the ladder of success as she worked across the continent.
It was while in Europe that she developed what would pass for her gimmick...her mastery of the
backbreaker, and the myriad ways it can be applied. It quickly became a rarity for one of her
opponents to be pinned, rather than being made to submit as their spine was tortured. The name of her
finisher, "Broken in Half", says it all.
Nearly a year after arriving in Europe as a virtual nobody, Leila was a marquee headliner...and a big
enough success to attract the attention of FAWN back in America, which offered her a contract that
paid more in a month than she could ever have hoped to have made in a year waiting tables or working
a cash register back in Castle Rock. She had made the big time at last...and she did it on her own
terms, having refused to compromise her values or the lessons her father taught her as a child.
Now, she is ready to bring the bad girls of FAWN to their knees...by breaking them over her own
knee!
