BACKGROUND:
In some of the more recent editions of the dictionary, the entry for “prodigy” just might be
accompanied by a picture of Rose Evans.
Everything she has ever done in her life, Rose has done sooner and better than most everyone
else. By 6 months of age she was walking. By 9 months, she was talking. She was playing
chess well at 3 years of age, and soon after had learned how to play both piano and the violin.
In short, Rose Evans was a genius, which delighted her honest, working class parents to no
end… at least initially.
The problem with having a clever kid, however, can be that sometimes the kid comes to think
he or she is smarter than his or her parents. In Rose’s case, she KNEW she was smarter. She’s
spent her entire life being the smartest person in the room, and sometimes the smartest person
in the building. Alas, while Evans was gifted with extensive intelligence, it was a gift that did
not come accompanied by extensive patience. She quickly grew frustrated with those around
her, either for their inability to keep up with her intellectually, their refusal to try to reason with
her, or for feeling they were patronizing her.
By the age of 14, Evans had graduated high school and was off to Columbia University. She
had hoped it would be a fresh start, surrounded by other intellectuals and people who might,
just might, appreciate her gifts. But while she made some good friends, Rose also found a
number of people resentful of her intellect and her academic success at such a young age. Still,
Evans took to the college life fairly well, and soon begun getting an education in and out of the
classroom: dating, attending parties and all the associated activities of college life.
At one such party, Rose found herself the target of another co-ed, who thought she had been
trying to make moves on her boyfriend. And then, an odd thing happened: Rose Dawson got
her ass kicked. It was the first time in her life she could remember FAILING at something.
And that experience ignited Evans’ competitive fire. She started taking self-defense classes.
She started studying martial arts. She joined Columbia’s boxing club. Anything she could
think of that might help her learn the art of fighting, Rose pursued it.
A year later, Rose Evans tracked down the girl who had humiliated her… and she embarrassed
that co-ed so badly that she left the university.
Rose had gained her revenge… but she had not quenched her thirst for combat. After earning
her Bachelor’s degree at 17, Dawson initially opted for graduate school. But she also
continued her fighting exploits, working a number of local independent pro wrestling shows in
addition to her studies. There, she caught the eye of a FAWN talent scout.
And a developmental deal was soon forthcoming.
NAME: Gabby Mendoza
HEIGHT: 5’5”
WEIGHT: 122lbs
HOMETOWN: Irving, TX
ALIGNMENT: Heel
STYLE: High flyer
RING GEAR: Black bustier and matching lace panties under a plaid miniskirt. Black thigh
high stockings and white boots.
FINISHER: Burst Your Bubble (Codebreaker)
BACKGROUND:
You might find yourself wondering how a nice girl like Gabby Mendoza ever got mixed up
with here…
The only child of two very loving and devout parents, Gabby lived a very sheltered life
growing up. Her parents didn’t own a television, feeling it was a device that corrupted the
minds of the innocent. She was not allowed to see any movies with a rating more severe than
PG. She had a 9PM curfew, and was home-schooled from the first grade on.
Eventually, though, the time came for Gabby to start thinking about colleges. And while taking
a campus visit to Columbia during the summer between her junior and senior years, she met a
young girl roughly her same age: Rose Evans. For whatever reason, the two bonded almost
straight away. Gabby quickly came to view Rose as the sister she’d never had. And even after
returning home to Texas, Evans and Gabby remained in touch.
This proved to be a problem, as Gabby’s parents found themselves increasingly distressed by
what the viewed as Evans’ impure influence on their precious child. They eventually tried to
put the brakes on this relationship, but Rose’s claws were in too deep. And when they gave
Gabby an ultimatum, Mendoza hopped on a Greyhound and left home to be with her new
mentor.
While Gabby is certainly naïve, and is often at a loss to fully understand others around her and
how they see her, she is hardly an idiot. However, she’s also almost slavishly loyal to Rose. If
Evans asked her, she would walk barefoot over broken glass. And Rose has convinced young
Gabby that this is a cruel world, where no one will take her seriously unless Mendoza MAKES
them take her seriously.
It is also worth noting that Gabby has always had anger management issues, and is an incessant
gum chewer.
(Note: when tagging together, Rose and Gabby have a thing. They like to collect their
pinfalls by simultaneous facesits on the vanquished team members--all the while making out
with each other while riding.)
